Position Overview 

We are currently in search of a Grants & Business Development Manager for an International Development Organization. The position is basedin Washington DC . This is a permanent, full-time assignment.

The Grants & Business Development Manager will lead fundraising for the organization's flagship programs and projects. They will be responsible for developing a donor pipeline and leading the proposal submission process.The Grants & Business Development Manager will report to the Deputy Director, who is based overseas. 

Responsibilities  

How You Will Spend Your Day: 

  • Partner with the Director and Deputy Director to develop targets, strategies, and tactics for government (bi-lateral & multi-lateral), corporate, foundation, and private donors
  • Develop and improve the fundraising process, activities, responsibilities, and key goals
  • Work with program leaders to discuss, strategize, and develop a summarization of funding project ideas in project documents
  • Research funding sources in the form (i.e. grants, loans, investments, prizes, etc.)
  • Conduct initial screening and assessment of potential funding opportunities
  • Present recommendations for every funding opportunity
  • Manage and update correspondences, call notes, contact information, links to proposals, amounts requested, likelihood, follow up dates, next steps, etc. in Salesforce
  • Be up to current with donor trends and latest research
  • Serve as point of contact for proposal requests, follow up for Request for Proposal, and Letter of Intent from donors
  • Manage proposal development process, assign tasks and deadlines to leadership, ensure feedback is received, and ensure proposal is iterated, finalized, & submitted on time
  • Develop proposals and budget according to proposal guidelines, research funder's priorities
  • Lead in the writing of proposals that are compelling, have a clear narrative, have a logical structure, and that emphasize donor priorities
  • Network with potential funders through to learn more about the funder's priorities, how proposals are reviewed, and how decisions are made
  • Develop annual fundraising budget
  • Monitor expenditure and adhere to budget
  • Monitor and track fundraising against annual KPIs
  • Communicate the organization's values of research-based decision making, cost efficiency, and transparency to internal/external stakeholders 
Qualifications 
Our Ideal Candidate:
 
  • At least 4 years of fundraising and grants experience while employed at an international organization, required
  • BA/BS, required
  • MA/MS (econ, business admin, international relations, public health, etc.), preferred
  • Proven success in securing multi-million dollar government (bi-lateral & multi-lateral), corporate, and foundation grants; required
  • Proven success in securing major donors; required
  • Experience with complex application processes, log-frame design, and developing detailed budgets; required
  • Strong knowledge of donor trends, sustainable development goals, rules and regulations of major donors (i.e. USAID, DFID), and prospects; required
  • Familiar with WASH (Water, sanitation, and hygiene) and/or health programs, required
  • Proven success in developing budgets, proposals, and RFPs; required
  • Experience working with colleagues across different time zones, required
  • Strong networking skills and ability to cultivate relationships at all levels, required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, required
  • Ability to communicate in person, via Skype, or by phone; required
  • Ability to make presentations to various sized audiences, required
  • Experience with Salesforce (or similar database), preferred
  • Ability to travel overseas (up to 10%) and work evenings/weekends (as needed); required 

Compensation: Annual salary is 75,000 - 85,000.
