The Jenifer Altman Foundation (JAF) is accepting applications for a full-time Grants Administrator. Founded in 1991, JAF is a private foundation making grants primarily in the areas of environmental health and justice and mind-body health.
JAF also manages the Barbara Smith Fund and the Environmental Health and Justice programs of the Mitchell Kapor Foundation and the StarFire Fund. The JAF and sister foundations and Fund programs are run by a small dedicated team that cares deeply about human and ecological health, justice and social change - and we are looking for a like-minded colleague to join us!
The Grants Administrator will report to the Executive Director and will handle a wide range of duties. He/she will work directly with all members of the staff and Board. In addition, this position includes extensive interaction (largely via email and by phone) with grant applicants, grant recipients and other funder colleagues.
Areas of Responsibility:
Grants Administration
* Process and track all grants
* Prepare quarterly and annual grants lists
* Develop and manage grant agreements
* Manage grants-related correspondence
* Work with Bookkeeper to process grant checks, invoices, etc.
* Conduct ongoing grants administration research, including foundation compliance laws
Program Support
* Manage board meeting preparation process, including logistics
* Respond to all inquiries regarding the Foundation's programmatic objectives
* Review grantees' final reports, draft summary assessment and write grant closing letter.
Other Areas of Responsibility
* Help develop funding applications, forms, portions of web content and Operations Manual
* Manage various aspects of Board correspondence and follow-up
* Help structure external communications on foundation's mission, goals, and programs
* Carry out a varied range of administrative, human resource and office management tasks as needed
* Provide support to the Executive Director and President as needed Qualifications
* Highly organized and detail oriented
* Ability to work as a team member in an informal, small-office setting
* Flexible, reliable and self-motivated
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* A good and compassionate listener
* Proficient in Mac-based Word, Excel, Eudora and FileMaker Pro
* Ability to monitor and prioritize workload and meet deadlines
