Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA), is an independent 501c(3) non-profit that supports the US National Arboretum, a 446-acre oasis of gardens and green space in northeast Washington, DC run by the US Department of Agriculture. FONA operates the Washington Youth Garden, the longest serving garden-based environmental and nutrition education program in the DC area, operating in DC public and charter schools and on the grounds of the Arboretum. WYG, with an annual budget of mid 6-figures, is funded entirely through foundation grants, as well as from individual and corporate contributions.
Position overview:
We are currently looking for an experienced grant writer to work on a consulting basis to carry out the grant writing responsibilities for the Washington Youth Garden in collaboration with FONA's Development Director and WYG's Program Director.
Qualifications:
Specific experience with outdoor/environmental education, nutrition education, and/ or urban youth horticulture/agriculture programs is preferred.
