Position Overview:

For students beginning their graduate studies at Prescott College in Fall 2010, a limited number of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) are available in the fields of Adventure Education, Counseling Psychology, Cultural & Regional Studies, Education and Environmental Studies.

Responsibilities:

While the duties assigned will vary by academic program, delivery mode and need, Graduate Teaching Assistants can expect to be responsible for one or more of the following:

  • Teaching or assisting with one or two undergraduate courses each term;
  • Facilitating classroom, laboratory, field or discussion sessions;
  • Responding to student papers and exams;
  • Holding regular office hours and meeting with students in study and review sessions;
  • Assisting faculty members with instructional preparation, delivery and assessment;
  • Other duties pertaining to the instructional mission of Prescott College.

On average, a Graduate Teaching Assistant is required to work somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 hours per week.

Qualifications:

  • Admission to the Fall 2010 Prescott College Master of Arts Program;
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree relevant to the field of Adventure Education, Counseling Psychology, Education or Environmental Studies; including the completion of relevant certification(s) for Adventure Education;
  • Demonstrated quality of academic work and practical/field experience as appropriate;
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal communications potential;
  • Commitment to experiential learning for social justice and environmental sustainability;
  • Evidence of character, ethics and high professional standards including, among others, respect for honest and responsible exchange of ideas, fair and equal treatment of all learners, respect for individual differences, and ability to avoid interactions that might jeopardize the fair assessment of student efforts;
  • Full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic progress in the Master of Arts program at Prescott College;
  • Willingness to live and work in Prescott, Arizona.

Compensation:  Graduate Teaching Assistants will receive a tuition grant valued at $6,000 for the first year and will be considered for adjunct teaching positions in their second year.
