Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit organization working to advance sustainability in the urban built environment, has an excellent opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals passionate about contributing to the growing green building movement. 

Urban Green Council developed and now manages the national certificate program, GPRO: Green Professional Building Skills Training. GPRO is a series of courses and exams to teach the people who build, renovate, and maintain buildings the principles of sustainability and trade-specific green construction knowledge. Position Overview: 

The GPRO Mechanical-HVAC Intern will provide support for GPRO’s Mechanical-HVAC curriculum development, consisting of sustainable construction practices for HVAC workers, and will contribute to the research and organization of the course materials. Candidates should have the ability to take on multiple projects and work independently with flexibility, enthusiasm, and good humor. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Research content for inclusion in the Mechanical-HVAC course
  • Assist with reorganization of the course outline
  • Draft text for manuals and PowerPoint presentations
  • Assist with the development of classroom exercises
  • Coordinate with experts from our Mechanical-HVAC curriculum working group
  • Search for photographs for course materials and secure permissions for their use

Qualifications: 

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Interest in and understanding of green building and environmental issues
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Proactive with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Bachelor’s Degree obtained or in progress (candidates in their last two years of study will be considered); mechanical engineering preferred

Additional Qualifications/Skills (optional but preferred):

  • Background in architecture or construction
  • Ability to supply your own laptop

Compensation: This internship will begin in September and last through mid-December. A minimum commitment of 8 hours per week is required. The position is unpaid.
