Description

~ The Physicians Committee is leading a revolution in medicine-putting a new focus on health and compassion. ~

The Physicians Committee combines the clout and expertise of more than 12,000 physicians with the dedicated actions of 150,000 members across the United States and around the world.

Our efforts are dramatically changing the way doctors treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. By putting prevention over pills, doctors are empowering their patients to take control of their own health. And we are also building a new way of viewing research.

Since 1985, the Physicians Committee has been working tirelessly for alternatives to the use of animals in medical education and research and advocating for more effective scientific methods. Our staff of physicians, dietitians, and scientists is working with policymakers, industry, the medical community, the media, and the public to create a better future for people and animals.

We invite you to visit our YouTube channel, our website, and Physicians Committee president Dr. Neal Barnard's blog.

About this Internship Opportunity

The Physicians Committee Government Affairs Department works to advance plant-based nutrition in federal food programs and in nutrition education among health care professionals and to promote alternatives to the use of animals in testing, training, and research.

The Government Affairs Intern will work on nutrition campaigns such as reform to the National School Lunch Program, legislation relating to increasing nutrition education among health care professionals, and the advancement of policies related to plant-based nutrition.

If you are a student or recent graduate who would like to have a real world impact with an organization at the forefront of public health and nutrition policy while increasing your knowledge and gaining advocacy and legislative skills, then consider applying for this unique opportunity.

The Physicians Committee is located in the Metro-accessible Friendship Heights neighborhood in Washington, D.C. This unpaid volunteer internship is not available as employment. Free housing accommodations at the PCRM guest house near the office may be available if needed.

All interns receive a full-day orientation at the start of their internship and ongoing support from their staff mentor.
