~ The Organic Trade Association is the leading voice for organic industry in the United States, representing over 6,500 organic businesses across 49 states. ~
The OTA is a membership-based business association whose mission is to promote and protect organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy. We envision organic products becoming a significant part of everyday life, enhancing people's lives and the environment.
We represent businesses across the organic supply chain and address all things organic, including food, fiber/textiles, personal care products and new sectors as they develop. Over 60 percent of OTA trade members are small businesses. OTA has an independent non-profit 501(c)(3) research and education organization, The Organic Center (TOC), which operates under its administrative auspices.
Internship Overview
We're looking for someone to help us with our government affairs and policy work in Washington, DC. The internship will pay $12 per hour, and we are looking for someone who is available 20-30 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Duties include:
- Monitoring news sources to identify articles of interest to the organic sector, and summarizing those weekly
- Researching and writing white papers and one pagers on issues of importance to the organic sector
- Researching organic representation on government boards and helping to develop a strategy to increase that representation
- Joining the planning team for the upcoming Organic Policy Conference
- Helping to implement a congressional engagement strategy through outreach, visits, etc.
Qualifications
Recommended Experience/Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong research skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to think outside of the box and identify innovative solutions to problems
- Excellent organization skills
- Must show initiative, creativity, and ability to work independently
- Must be self-motivated and have an energetic personality
- Ability to work as part of a team of colleagues both in DC and across the country
