Description

Join the leader of the nation's fast-growing Fair Trade movement!

About Us: Fair Trade is an exciting alternative business model that guarantees fair prices and a better quality of life for farming families in developing countries, as well as encouraging sustainable farming practices for producers of coffee, tea, chocolate, fresh fruit, sugar and rice.

TransFair USA is a nonprofit organization that provides the only certification for Fair Trade products in the US market. Fair Trade is an exciting alternative to "business as usual" that guarantees fair prices for farmers and farm workers around the world. We partner with over 1.1 million farming families in the developing world and with over 450 businesses that market and sell Fair Trade Certified products in the US. In the last four years, Fair Trade coffee has become the fastest growing segment of the $18.5 billion coffee industry, and TransFair is currently in an exciting strategic phase of growth to continue to increase the sales of Fair Trade products in the mainstream market. We invite enthusiastic, qualified individuals to join us to change the world one cup at a time.

Overview of Position:

Working directly with the VP, and collaborating with the entire Global Producer Services (GPS) Team, the Director will be responsible for managing TransFair USA's ground breaking new GPS department. The mission of the GPS Department is to strengthen producer organizations and to ensure efficient international markets for Fair Trade CertifiedTM products.

As a new initiative, GPS is an internal start-up of sorts: in search of viable partnerships that support its mission and prospecting for funds to operate its programs. These programs will always involve our producer partners, based in nearly 30 countries, and will often involve one or more of our 450 industry partners.

Specific duties include:

* Manage design and measurement of on-the-ground projects.
* Oversee local technical assistance provider partnerships and project work.
* Contribute to proposals for funds, and build support with partners.
* Serve as a main point of contact with funders (in conjunction with the VP and with our Development Department).
* Supervise GPS Manager and 1-2 GPS Associates, and manage the annual GPS budget.
* Communicate GPS concept and progress to producer communities, industry, and the press.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelors' degree is required as well as a minimum of five years of professional work experience, preferably in an organization focused on international development. Previous supervisory experience collaborating with teams and managing within timelines and budgets required. Work with projects in the developing world, ideally for a large, multilateral organization or one of its contractors is desired. Special consideration is given to candidates with some international fundraising expertise. Exceptional written and oral communication skills are essential. Knowledge of one or more Fair Trade products is a plus. Candidates must be proficient using the applications of Microsoft Office. Database and MS Project experience is ideal. Fluency in Spanish is required.
