Description
Global Green USA is a national environmental organization addressing three of the greatest challenges facing humanity:
- Stemming global climate change by creating green buildings and cities.
- Eliminating weapons of mass destruction that threaten lives and the environment.
- Providing clean, safe drinking water for the 2.4 billion people who lack access to clean water.
The Global Green USA in New Orleans is offering 2007 - 2008 internship opportunities for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining practical experience in green building, environmental research, public policy, and the legislative process. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational and individual development.
Duties:
* Develop, research, write, and possibly publish a project on a topic developed according to the needs of the organization, intern's own interests, as well as potential school requirements for academic credit.
* Operate the Green Building Resource Center.
* Provide technical assistance on green building.
* Attend legislative strategy meetings.
* Assist with organizational needs and foundation research.
* Assist Directors in planning and implementation of green redevelopment projects.
* Assist with foundation research.
* Help with other tasks and projects as needs arise.
Possible Topics
* SolarCity grant and solar initiatives for Green Schools Program,
* Public Outreach/Grassroots Coalition to shape green building policy & construction codes,
* Green education curriculum,
* Green building policy research,
* Green building products research,
* Advocacy of elected officials to adopt green building measures,
* Documentation for the Holy Cross Project and LEED.
Eligibility:
* Must have a proven interest in green building, affordable housing, architecture, and/or related environmental issues
* Preference given to graduate students, but junior and senior undergraduate students are encouraged to apply
* Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent if from a non-US institution
Time Commitment: Minimum 3 months, 10 hours/week. Exact hours to be determined with intern and academic institution.
Location: our office is located in the Green Building Resource Center at 841 Carondelet Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
Compensation: Academic credit is available. Please work out academic credit details with your academic institution.
