ABOUT GCM:
Global Community Monitor is a non-profit environmental health and justice organization that empowers fenceline communities to recreate a clean, healthy and truly sustainable environment. We achieve this through community organizing, media and communications training, technical assistance in the use of air monitoring tools, bucket brigades, and strategic assistance in community-based campaigns.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
GCM seeks a motivated Fundraising Intern to support the organization in on-going efforts around expanding donors database and increasing individual donations through strategized direct mailing, and online silent auction. This is an unpaid and part-time position ideal for someone looking to gain valuable, hands-on nonprofit management and fundraising experience with a community-based environmental health and justice organization working with communities around the globe.
The Fundraising Intern will work from the GCM office and remotely from their home in each work-week. The work environment for this position is diverse and includes in person work at Global Community Monitor home office, telecommute, and occasional local travel.
The project duration is from July through December 2013 and shoudl take about 10 to 15 hours per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Join forces with the fundraising team on expanding donors' database and increasing individual donations through a strategized direct mailing plan. This includes: reaching out and obtaining contact info of our facebook likes, cleaning up our supporters' database with SALSA of incorrect information, or duplicate information, using database engines such as post office to update current database.
- Collaborate and coordinate with fundraising team on developing levels of giving based on past donors' history.
- Team up with staff on a direct mailing pieces; placing the orders, and sending out the mail pieces.
- Lead the effort on requesting donation items for an online auction to be launched towards end of the year.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree or currently enrolled in a Bachelors or graduate degree program.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, organized, dependable and a detail oriented independent worker.
- Ability to speak effectively and represent GCM with donors in person and over the phone.
- Ability to work effectively in a small office.
- Interest in non-profit and environmental work.
- Basic computer knowledge, including MS Word,Google Docs, Facebook.
- Previous marketing or fundraising experience a plus.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Working phone and a laptop computer.
- Must opssess a driver's License.
