The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.
Position Summary:
The Foundation Relations Coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating the submission of proposals and reports to corporate and foundation donors. S/he will interface with program and financial staff to gather programmatic and financial information. S/he will provide support to program and development staff in their interactions with donors and general prospect and programmatic research. The position requires strong writing and editing skills, as well as an eye for detail.
Responsibilities:
•Coordinate, write, submit and track grant reports;
•Interface with finance department and program staff on financial reporting required by donors;
•Adapt and edit proposals, concept papers and letters of inquiry;
•Assist Senior Manager, Foundation Relations and Government Grants, with overall strategy on foundation prospects and current donors;
•Participate in prospect research, and creation of donor profiles;
•Assist with administration of the foundation giving process including tracking systems, donor database recordkeeping, and meeting preparation and follow up; and
•Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree required;
•2-3 years previous grant writing or development writing experience;
•Experience/knowledge of international environment and community development issues preferred;
•Must have excellent writing skills, including ability to write to different audiences;
•Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines;
•Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as be an effective team member;
•Excellent interpersonal skills;
•Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint); Raisers Edge experience desirable;
•Experience working with budgets and financial reports; and
•Spanish communication skills a plus.
