MRAG Americas, Inc. is an independent consulting business dedicated to promoting responsible, rational and sustainable utilization of aquatic resources, with offices in Massachusetts, Florida, California, Alaska, and Hawaii. Our staff consists of a unique and highly motivated group of scientists and specialists with expertise in fisheries and aquatic resource science, management, and monitoring; fisheries observer programs; ecosystem and protected area management; government liaison and relations; and international conservation and management agreements.
Position Overview:
Perform analyses and research to enable the issuance of Incidental Harassment Authorizations; Conduct necessary activities to collect and analyze National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) compliance data; Review and issue scientific research permits under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA); Perform consultations under the ESA; Write Section 7 Biological Opinions under ESA.
Specific responsibilities:
Perform analyses and required research to enable consultation under the ESA, MMPA and NEPA on Federal activities affecting protected species including, but not limited to, all activities related to military readiness (U.S. Navy training activities) and the national energy mandate (oil/gas activities, seismic research and activities, exploration and production). Issue permits and authorizations, prepare correspondence, prepare Federal Register notices, review annual reports, draft Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements, and write categorical exclusion memos.
Qualifications:
Requires three years work experience with at least one year at a GS-9 or equivalent level responsibility in Fisheries Science, Marine Policy or related field. Masters or Ph.D. degree desired. Candidates with experience working with the ESA, MMPA, NEPA and/or writing Section 7 consultations will receive preference. Must be a U.S. resident or have a current U.S. Work Visa.
Salary: Commensurate with experience; full benefits package.
