Description

~ Cogentrix is a leading independent power producer with a long track record of successfully acquiring, developing, constructing, operating, improving and divesting power generation assets. Cogentrix is owned by funds managed by The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest alternative asset management firms, and serves as Carlyle’s in-house power asset management platform. ~

Cogentrix has been directly involved in the development, ownership, operations and management of coal-fired, natural gas-fired, solar power, and wind assets delivering a combined generating capacity in excess of 10 GW. Through the ownership and operation of these plants, Cogentrix has participated in most of the major power regions in the U.S. Cogentrix currently manages plants in the Carlyle portfolio, which has a total net generation of approximately 7,000 MW. 

General Function

The Financial Analyst is responsible for reviewing the financial matters of all plant and related project entities, providing financial perspective and support to the Financial Managers and VP, Finance as well as the General Manager, other project/site team members, and other departmental/functional team members throughout the organization.

Under functional guidance from their manager, he/she completes the finance functions, provides stakeholders with projected and reported results, performs short- and long-term financial analyses, and assists in preparation and analyses of budgets and forecasts. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and analyzes plant and corporate budgets, forecasts and cash flows 
  • Responsible for ensuring 5 year plans are completed, analyzing results and assisting in preparation of 5 year plan presentations 
  • Works closely with project teams to prepare all plant and corporate budget presentations 
  • Supports project cash planning activities, particularly long-term projections, focusing on liquidity needs and covenant compliance 
  • Assists in administration of all project-financing documents involving borrowing, debt service and reporting to lenders 
  • Analyzes monthly results, explaining actual to budget variances 
  • Prepares monthly financial reporting for senior management, including drafting of narratives 
  • Assists in preparation and analysis of quarterly and year-end reporting provided to internal and external parties 
  • Prepares ad hoc financial analyses, information updates, and reporting as needed 

Qualifications

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • 5 years relevant experience in finance required 
  • Excellent technical competence with strong attention to detail 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to work with people across all departments within organization 
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines at once 
  • Experience with Hyperion HFM and Planning desired 

Compensation: Estimated: $69,000 - $93,000 a year
