Background:


Youth Challenge International combines community
development, health education and environmental work in
adventurous projects carried out by teams of volunteers aged
18-30 years. YCI is a non-profit, non-religious organization
with a team of 6 full time and 3 part time staff in the Toronto
office. YCI organizations also operate in Costa Rica, Australia
and Guyana, South America.


Duties:


Reporting directly to the Executive Director, working in
close collaboration with the Board Treasurer and the Finance
Committee, and supervising a part-time bookkeeper, the
Finance Officer is responsible for YCIs overall financial
management. Key responsibilities include: budgeting; regular
financial reporting (internal and external); financial record
keeping and data management; accounts payable and receivable;
payroll and Group Plan administration; audit preparation;
financial communications and fund transfers (national and
international); cash management planning and investing;
financial analysis (departmental, project, variances etc.); and
maintaining effective cost controls.


Qualifications:


The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the
preparation and presentation of annual budgets, and the ability
to provide financial analysis of departmental and project
expenditures, monthly financial statements, financial
forecasting and performance trends. You will be responsible
for the preparation of the year-end audit and diverse working
papers. You should be organized, detail-oriented with good
business sense, and have strong analytical and problem-
solving skills.

We are looking for a candidate with strong inter-personal skills
who is able to liaise openly and regularly with colleagues at
our overseas partner agencies. International liaison includes:
managing transfers to and from overseas partners; communicating
with counterpart staff to ensure the timely exchange of relevant
financial reports; and providing support and consultation to
overseas personnel on financial matters. We prefer candidates
with some knowledge of database applications and Simply
Accounting. Experience with FileMaker Pro would be
beneficial.

Compensation:


Salary: $30K per annum for three days per week
Vacation: 3 weeks in first year, pro-rated; 4 weeks thereafter,
pro-rated
