Description
Thorne Nature Experience (formerly Thorne Ecological Institute) believes in discovery, exploration, and connecting kids to the natural world. Founded in 1954, Thorne has a rich history and has reached over 200,000 children and adults with its programs.
Position Overview:
Thorne Nature Experience is seeking enthusiastic, environmentally aware individuals to provide program support for field trips associated with our In-School Programs (formerly Project BEAR). Thorne's In-School Programs contribute to our mission of connecting youth to nature through joyful, hands-on, place-based environmental education experiences. Emphasis is placed on working with low-income, low-scoring, and culturally diverse schools throughout the Boulder/Denver Metro Area, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have the opportunity to become connected with nature.
The Field Nature Experience Interns will support Thorne Educators by co-facilitating field trip experiences for visiting school groups at Thorne's Boulder and Littleton sites. Field trips run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from April 17 through May 16. Interns will also have the opportunity to support our In-School Programs by helping to construct student-written books at the Thorne office and shadowing these programs at schools.
Individuals available on multiple days are encouraged to take more than one internship slot or apply for one of our other internships. Each Field Nature Experience Internship slot will result in 25 or more hours of documented environmental education experience.
