The Clifton Park site is the project's original 6-acre farm on the Historic Lake Clifton School Campus. ~
Position Overview
Civic Works, Inc. seeks a creative, independent individual with leadership and farming experience and a demonstrated passion for food access, farmer training, and urban agriculture to manage all aspects of Real Food Farm's Clifton Park site.
The Clifton Farm Manager will plan and coordinate all agricultural activities at Real Food Farm Clifton. While primarily focused on managing food growing and corpsmember training, coordination will occur with the Community Market & Outreach Coordinator, Perlman Place Farm Manager, and Education Coordinator on Real Food Farm's marketing, outreach, production, and education goals.
The position requires 40 hours per week and offers salary plus benefits including short and long-term disability, supported health care, 401k, and dental.
Responsibilities
- Manage and implement all food production activities at Real Food Farm Clifton, including orchard and diversified vegetables, apiaries, mushrooms, high tunnel and greenhouse infrastructure, crop planning, daily work activities, and special projects.
- Manage Real Food Farm Clifton team including corpsmembers, interns, and volunteers (individuals and groups).
- Manage infrastructure at Real Food Farm Clifton, including compost, post-harvest, greenhouse and hoophouse, signage, communal spaces, roadways, vehicles, storage and irrigation.
- Coordinate with Perlman Place Farm Manager and Community Market & Outreach Coordinator to develop crops plans and connect product to markets including CSA, restaurant, Mobile Farmers Market, and Farm Alliance farmers market stand(s).
- Draft and manage Real Food Farm Clifton budget with support from Food & Farm Director.
- Coordinate with Education Coordinator to manage and implement corpsmember (including interns) development and training programs.
- Coordinate with Food & Farm Director to track data (pounds harvested, volunteer hours, etc.) and oversee goal-setting and evaluations at Real Food Farm Clifton.
- Engage in Civic Works' meetings and activities as necessary, including staff meetings, supervisor meetings, Day of Service, etc.
- Participate in city and regional agriculture networks as advisory committee or task force member.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities:
- 2 years farming experience required.
- Volunteer experience and/or AmeriCorps service a plus.
- Experience in carpentry, staff management, budget management, and equipment a plus.
- Driver's license (a driving record will be requested as well).
- Drug test and a criminal background check will be required.
- Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems.
- Computer skills and experience with database entry.
