Smith Meadows is offering two 12-month internship positions beginning in April 2009 for qualified applicants.
As a year-round livestock and agri-tourism farm, Smith Meadows offers a diverse learning experience opportunity. We want each individual to experience a realistic farm setting with regard to finances, seasonality, marketing, production, risk, and future strategies. This will ensure an invaluable perspective on how to run an ecologically and economically sustainable farm business.
Responsibilities:
Each intern will work 5 (8-10 hour) days a week. This will involve a spectrum of activities: basic farm chores, devising strategies for organic livestock production, trucking, processing, and direct marketing to the consumer. You will work closely throughout the entire internship with a Smith Meadows mentor.
Our goal is twofold: to spread and foster the necessity of sustainable agriculture, and to provide a diverse and pragmatic yearlong learning experience to help achieve this outcome.
Qualifications:
Applicants' attributes should include: positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a desire to learn and be creative.
Compensation: Compensation includes lodging in a private room with a shared bath and cooking facilities, and a wage of $9.00 an hour.
