Description

Founded in 1869, Chatham University has an enrollment of over 2,200 students across over 60 undergraduate and graduate programs in our areas of excellence: sustainability & health, the arts & sciences, and business & communications.

Chatham has consistently been named a College of Distinction and a "Best College" by U.S. News & World Report, and-as the alma mater of environmental icon, Rachel Carson (Class of '29)-is perennially ranked as one of the greenest colleges in the United States by Sierra Magazine and the Princeton Review.

Overview

Chatham University is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to serve as its Falk Chair in Socially Responsible Business. This 12-month position reports to the Director of Sustainability Programs in Chatham's nationally recognized Falk School of Sustainability & Environment, with a secondary reporting line to the Director of Business Programs in the School of Arts, Sciences & Business.

The ideal candidate has a compelling vision and significant practical experience in advancing sustainability with a particular focus on the private sector. This endowed chair is the focal point for expanding the Falk School's external relationships with business at a regional and national scale, as well as with other stakeholders focused on the sustainability transition within the private sector. These mutually beneficial partnerships enrich our undergraduate and graduate programs in sustainability through experience-based learning opportunities for students and timely insights from practitioners in the dynamic fields of sustainability.

The selected candidate will:

  • Bring greater visibility to Chatham University's standing as a premiere institution for educating the next generation of sustainability leaders.
  • Provide thought leadership both on and off campus regarding business sustainability best practices.
  • Develop experiential capstone programs, certificate programs and engagements for undergraduate and graduate students to promote skills development.
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in fields related to sustainability and the private sector.
  • Collaborate with Falk School and SASB faculty to facilitate cutting edge business sustainability course content and practical advising objectives.
  • Generate ideas for leveraging the full potential of the living, learning laboratory of Eden Hall Campus to benefit Chatham and surrounding communities.

Recruitment for this position is guided by a search advocate whose role is to foster a diverse and inclusive candidate pool. The search committee will utilize non-biased interviewing and evaluation techniques in the selection process. A review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.

Chatham University strives to promote multicultural awareness, understanding and competencies within our community. We actively work to build and sustain an engaged, inclusive, diverse, and equitable campus culture, which in turn promotes employee and student satisfaction, retention, and success, both individually and collectively.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Serve as the focal point for Chatham University's programs and partnerships related to sustainable business.
  • Teach 12 credits per academic year in courses such as Sustainability Assessment & Reporting, Corporate Social Responsibility, Green & Social Innovation, Corporate Finance, and Sustainable Supply Chain Management.
  • Guide the academic advising process regarding critical sustainability knowledge, skills, and abilities in demand in the workplace.
  • Supervise and support student capstone projects and theses.
  • Perform service to the University, such as appointed and elected committee work.
  • Perform service to the profession and community, such as board memberships, executive officer positions, steering committee work, or other collective efforts that foster Chatham's reputation as a thought leader in sustainable business.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Academic Training: PhD or other terminal degree in a relevant field including, but not limited to, sustainable business administration, economics, law, supply chain management, marketing, renewable energy, corporate finance, data analytics or corporate social responsibility.
  • Professional Practice: At least three years of professional experience in the private sector with duties related to sustainability or related fields.
  • Faculty Experience: University-level teaching experience, in a traditional classroom or practice-based setting, in sustainability or related subjects.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff and students with diverse backgrounds, identities, and perspectives.
  • Commitment to contributing to an inclusive and equitable campus community and region.
  • A high degree of emotional intelligence, excellent listening skills, cultivated patience for collaborative processes, and a positive, solution-oriented attitude regarding conflict and disagreement

Note: Renewal and promotion follow Chatham standards for administrative faculty and will focus on cultivation of a professional practice, rather than traditional academic scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an Assistant or Associate Professor in a higher education institution.
  • Experience developing partnerships that connect educational institutions with private sector business in mutually beneficial collaboration.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the intersection of social justice issues and environmental sustainability in either professional or academic settings.
