cooperative providing renewable electricity, heating oil, and biodiesel
services to thousands of households, small businesses, and municipalities in
Southeastern PA. We envision a world in which empowered energy consumers create

Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for The Co-op's achievement of its mission and financial objectives through direction and oversight of all business/organizational strategy and implementation, day-to-day management of staff and operations, and policy execution.

The ED must move capably and confidently between a wide range of responsibilities, including executive level marketing and business development, financial management, human resources, public and community relations, board and membership relations, and staff oversight. The ED reports to the Board of Directors.

This position starts in the fall of 2014. Review of applications will start by 8/22 and the position will remain open until filled.


Responsibilities

High Priority Responsibilities for the next Executive Director include:

  • Leadership: Guiding the organization through leadership and staff transitions.
  • Financial Management: Improving The Co-op's financial performance to ensure continued organizational health.
  • Strengthening Operations: Developing and executing plans to stabilize performance within volatile and competitive energy markets.

Essential Duties: 

  • Articulates company vision and mission to internal and external audiences.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures as approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Oversees operating plans, budgets, cash flow, and company finances.
  • Follows and advises on significant developments and trends in the energy industry.
  • Plans, coordinates and manages meetings of the Board of Directors.
  • Recruits employees and manages human resources and employee benefits.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 

Qualifications 

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in a business or organization undergoing significant change.
  • Executive management experience including supervision of staff, oversight of financial reporting, development of budgets, and working with a Board of Directors.
  • Strong background or interest in the energy industry, particularly renewable and retail energy.
  • Sales, business development, or marketing experience, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • Entrepreneurial in spirit and ability to find innovative ways to grow an organization.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to cooperative principles.
  • Personal attributes such as the ability to lead teams to success, develop trust and engender collaboration, communicate confidently and effectively, and strive for excellence. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • 7-10 years of senior or executive management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in pertinent training or experience. Advanced degree desirable.
  • Significant financial management experience.
  • Proven business acumen; successful implementation of business plans and operational strategies.
  • Passionate commitment to The Co-op's mission and values.

Compensation: This is a full-time, overtime-exempt position. Annual salary range is commensurate with experience. Standard benefits package applies.
