Description
~ Bethesda Green is a non-profit organization that brings business, government and residents to build a healthy economy, promote sustainable living practices and reduce our collective impact on the environment. ~
Our strategic focus to achieve our mission includes:

- Educate Community about Sustainability - Raise awareness and inspire action through programs, online communications and education center.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and immediately to the Executive Committee. Performance will be reviewed annually led by the Board Chair. The ED is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission, goals and financial objectives.
- Provide visionary and strategic leadership to the organization and translate vision and strategy into concrete actions that advance the mission;
- Oversee the organization's financial position and outlook to ensure fiscal responsibility and security;
- Work with board of directors to execute the goals of the organization;
- Act as the "face" of Bethesda Green to the community;
- Communicate the Bethesda Green mission to various audiences and develop sound relationships with individuals and organizations that share our vision;
- Oversee the operations to ensure that Bethesda Green is a well-managed, highly-respected organization;
- Grow local green economy by growing green business incubator, affiliate and other entrepreneurial programs;
- Create and deliver programs that meet our goals and mission. These include but are not limited to events, the Green Business Incubator and Education Center;
- Lead fundraising and development efforts, foster positive relations with existing funders and expand the donor base;
- Develop and manage strategic partnerships (sponsors, vendors, incubators, other organizations);
- Provide effective management and direction to staff; and
- Support the Board of Directors in governance, foster its ongoing development, and keep it informed on internal conditions and important external developments.
- Oversee fundraising planning and implementation;
- With board and Development Officer, develop strategies to secure funds from diverse sources, including individuals, businesses, government and private foundations;
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders;
- Employ diverse fundraising vehicles, including but not limited to grant proposals, major events, regular presentations, employee campaigns, annual fund and board campaigns, donor cultivation and recognition, corporate sponsorship programs and social media; and
- Prepare and present reports, including the annual report, to board and funders, as well as community stakeholders.
- Recommend annual budget for Board approval and prudently manage the organization's resources consistent within budget guidelines according to applicable laws and regulations;
- Maintain the organization's 501(c)(3) non-profit status through careful management and oversight of the organization's various funding streams;
- Coordinate with bookkeeper/accountant to complete 990 and appropriate audits; and
- Deliver financial statements on a monthly basis and report to board and Treasurer in the required formats.
- Oversee design, marketing, promotion and delivery of quality programs that advances Bethesda Green's mission;
- Oversee daily operations according to policies and procedures that fully comply with federal, state and local regulations;
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff including Marketing & Operations Manager, Outreach & Communications Manager, Incubator Manager, Development Officer and Program Manager;
- Oversee effective recruitment and development of volunteer and intern programs;
- Maintain official records, documents and internal/external communications as appropriate; and
- Oversee collection of program and grant performance data for evaluation, strategic review and reporting purposes.
- Ensure the organization and its mission, programs, products, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive light to all stakeholders;
- Acquire and renew supporters and sponsor members by offering valuable benefits and services such as events, newsletters and networking opportunities;
- Engage local, state and national stakeholders to advance BG's mission;
- Establish collaborative relationships with community groups and organizations, as appropriate;
- Cultivate, engage and support stakeholders, particularly board members, as ambassadors, volunteers and program participants; and
- Develop, oversee and implement marketing plans to engage the public and publicize the organization through a variety of mediums, including web, e-news, social media and the press.
- Support operations and administration of the Board of Directors by advising and informing members on programs, finances, operations, and other pertinent activities;
- Interface between board and staff to support Bethesda Green priorities; provide staff support to committee chairs for monthly board, committee meetings and annual retreat;
- Cultivate and encourage board to take active leadership in decision-making with respect to strategy, policy, programs and fiscal oversight;
- Prepare written materials including the executive director report, dashboards, and summaries for monthly board and periodic committee meetings; and
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by board.

Compensation: This is a full-time position with benefits, located in Bethesda, Maryland, part of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Compensation is negotiable and will depend upon the candidate.
