Description
GVI (Green Village Initiative) is a non-profit organization formed 3 years ago in Westport, CT. Our goal is to bring communities together to work on tangible projects that result in positive change. We focus on environmental and sustainability efforts that have wider benefits/impacts, with a local action and direct project approach. We also support socially responsible businesses, bringing years of private equity training from one of our founders.
Within this regional and strategic framework we are flexible and "nimble" to execute tangible projects efficiently with maximum impact. The discrepancy between opportunities for children in Bridgeport vs. the rest of Fairfield County is the largest in the country, and this motivates us to work for change.
We focus much of our energy and resources in Bridgeport to help bridge this gap. Projects to date have included edible school gardens, town farms, water protection, energy reduction, assisting the start-up of a mattress recycling business and general community building. We are very lean being a primarily all-volunteer organization with only one staff person at present. Our efforts to date have yielded recognition/awards from the Town of Westport, the State of Connecticut, the EPA, the Boy Scouts, and others.
