St. Lucie County is empowering its residents and businesses to save money and reduce energy consumption through the Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF).
Position Overview:
The Executive Director has the overall strategic and operational responsibility for Solar and Energy Loan Fund's (SELF's) staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The Executive Director will develop a deep knowledge of program, operations, and business plans under the direction of the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the Board of Directors to establish and implement SELF's vision, mission, goals and objectives.
- Provide recommendations and strategies to assure sustainability of the fund.
- Develop and implement SELF's marketing strategies.
- Promote the interests of SELF to lenders, homeowners, small businesses and contractors.
- Educate local, state and federal government leaders about program benefits.
- Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board.
- Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work.
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Communications:
- Ensure that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of SELF and all important factors influencing it.
- Publicize the activities of SELF, its programs and goals.
- Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
- Develop and present information in a clear, concise and professional manner.
- Represent the programs and point of view of SELF to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
Staff Relations:
- Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
- Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
- Maintain an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession.
- Encourage staff and volunteer development and education, and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
- Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.
Budget and Finance:
- Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
- Work with the staff, and the Board in preparing a budget; see that SELF operates within budget guidelines.
- Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit SELF to carry out its mission. Ensure the financial stability and growth of SELF by implementing strategies to obtain funds from foundations, corporations, government entities and others.
- Be responsible for accuracy, security and solvency of SELF's funds, budget and recordkeeping.
- Ensure SELF's compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations as well as contract and grant requirements.
Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this job, the executive director is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear.
- Public speaking; to small and large groups in public and private settings.
- The position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- The executive director must be able to travel to attend conferences, training and other events as required in order to acquire and maintain proficiency in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration or closely related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Experience in growing a new business.
- Experience preferred in the operation of a financial institution.
- Experience preferred in the renewable and energy efficient industry.
- Experience working for or with non-profit agency and/or a Board of Directors.
- Record of successful development of a non-profit organization.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
- Intermediate to advanced computer software skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Fundraising and/or grant administration experience preferred.
Compensation: $60,000 - $90,000
