SAGA is an AmeriCorps-based organization that provides service learning experiences to its members in both service corps and individual placement programs.
Position Overview:
The SAGA Executive Director (ED) provides leadership to the ongoing development and operation of the organization. He or she serves as a highly visible community spokesperson as well as working directly with senior staff to support AmeriCorps Members in their service activities. The ED ensures that the organization achieves its goals while furthering the organizational mission. He or she is responsible for implementation and management of an effective organization and ensuring its continued health. The ED reports directly to the SAGA Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
- Works with the Board of Directors to establish organizational goals, objectives and policies. Implements an effective and cohesive management system to achieve these goals. Develops procedures for assessing the organization's effectiveness in achieving goals and serving Members and partners.
- Supervises and works closely with the Director of Programs.
o Ongoing program planning and monitoring existing programs. - Supervises and works closely with the Finance Director.
o Developing and monitoring of the organization's budget and overall fiscal management. - Responsible for identifying and securing funding from a wide variety of public and private sources.
o Grant writing - federal, state, and others.
o Fundraising - securing charitable donations and endowments. - Sets the tone and direction for the organization.
- Establishes partnerships and coordinates with a broad range of individuals and organizations including funding sources, sponsors, community-based organizations, referring agencies, government officials, support service providers, and employers. Represents the organization to the public and the media.
- Oversees both short and long-range strategic planning efforts of the organization to ensure its continuation and health. Keeps staff focused on the strategic plan. Works with the Director of Programs and Finance Director to ensure strategic plan goals are met.
- Coordinates and works with the Finance Director and Director of Programs to keep funding sources, media, community organizations and the general public informed about the organization's achievements and progress.
Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's degree in education, business management, social work or related field, or equivalent experience, is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
Experience:
5 years of experience managing medium to large-scale nonprofit organizations, preferably ones that focus on youth development. This experience should include program development, personnel management, fundraising, grant writing and budgeting responsibilities. Experience in conservation/service corps programs or related organizations are preferable.

- Commitment to the goals and mission of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, manage a complex organization, and to inspire and motivate staff members
- Knowledge of effective management, planning, administrative, and supervisory practices
- Ability to coordinate and work with a broad range of public agencies, nonprofit organizations and a diverse group of funding sources
- Fundraising experience
- Demonstrated grant writing skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of the population(s) served by the organization
- Organizational and logistical skills needed to develop and implement programs and services
- Knowledge of education/training philosophy and techniques.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skill
Reports to: SAGA's Board of Directors
Classification: Exempt; Regular Full-Time
Compensation: salary - DOE, accrued leave, paid holidays, healthcare insurance
