Executive Director

Alaska Conservation Alliance (Alliance) and Alaska Conservation Voters (Voters) seek a dynamic leader to serve as Executive Director. The Alliance is the lead 501 (c) (3) umbrella organization for Alaska conservation groups; Voters is the only 501 (c) (4) statewide conservation organization working to change Alaska's political landscape through lobbying and electoral politics. 

Alaska Conservation Alliance protects Alaska's air, land and water by being a powerful voice for the conservation community in the civic arena.

Alaska Conservation Voters, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, is the political voice of the Alaska conservation community.  We advocate for sound environmental policies that ensure a healthy environment and prosperous economy for this and future generations. Conservation Voters helps to identify, recruit, train, and support pro-conservation candidates for office, and continues to work with these decision makers on environmental issues.

Position Overview: 

The Executive Director will be hired by and report to the (c)(3) and (c)(4) Boards of Directors. This position presents an opportunity to mobilize citizens to influence key public policies affecting Alaska's unique environment.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader and seasoned professional manager who brings vision, strategic thinking, strong fundraising skills, personal integrity, effective communication, and a strong desire to make conservation a high priority among a majority of Alaskans. He/she will have a proven track record in financial oversight, individual and grant fundraising, personnel management, coalition-building, and cultivating strategic partnerships among a variety of constituencies.

Qualifications:

Required:

• BA or BS degree in business, nonprofit management, related field or equivalent non-profit management and Board experience.
• Demonstrated successful fundraising experience through both grants and individual donors.
• Experience managing budgets and fiscal policies.
• Experience managing, motivating and mentoring staff. 
• Familiarity with lobbying, political campaigns and Alaska's legislative body.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically. 
• Dynamic ability to motivate and inspire others. 
• Strong leadership, strategic planning, and organizational development skills.
• Strong writing, public speaking, and media skills.
• Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including some evening work and travel.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with 501(c)3, 501(c)4, and PAC relationships.
• Significant lobbying, legislative and political campaign experience.
• Experience working with and building coalitions.
• Experience building organizational structures. 
• Significant experience in civic engagement & leadership.
• Experience with conservation advocacy and conservation issues.

Desired:

• Familiarity with Alaska's conservation community and environmental issues.    
• Working knowledge of social media advocacy.
• General computer, database and web-based skills.

Compensation: Salary is DOE, plus health, dental and employer retirement contribution after vesting. This is a full-time, exempt position.
