Keep Austin Beautiful (KAB)'s mission is to provide resources and education to inspire individuals and our community toward greater environmental stewardship. KAB is a 501(c)3 non-profit governed by a volunteer Board of Directors (Board), with offices at 55 North IH-35, Suite 215, Austin, TX 78702.

Position Overview:

Oversee Keep Austin Beautiful becoming the recognized leader in environmental education, beautification and community cleanup initiatives.

The annual operating budget is approximately $500,000. The organization includes 3 full-time employees, 3 part-time employees and varying levels of unpaid interns.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide strong leadership to expand and improve the organization through innovative approaches. Demonstrate strategic and tactical proficiency; act with a sense of urgency. Utilize exceptional written communication, oral communication and organizational skills.
  2. Collaborate with an active Board on all aspects of the organization. Submit reports to the Board, and as required, to partners of the organization.
  3. Build coalitions with diverse parties. Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as elected representatives, government managers, community leaders and corporate representatives, while demonstrating diplomacy, impeccable ethics, a high energy level and optimism.
  4. Possess a passion for non-profit work, particularly in the environmental and community arenas.
  5. Manage, supervise and develop staff. Design and implement HR policies and procedures, including performance management, training, and professional development. Create a climate of teamwork and the pursuit of excellence in order to attract and retain a diverse, top quality staff.
  6. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to inspire and motivate. Know when to directly lead and when to work as part of a team.
  7. Provide supportive direction to staff while maintaining a professional and healthy balance of delegation, autonomy and conflict management.
  8. Develop short and long range plans, including key performance indicators to guide the organization.
  9. Mobilize and interact with volunteers from all parts of the Austin area.
  10. Expand and improve fund development programs, including raising visibility of the organization, generating new and diverse funding, expanding donors and pursuing grants.
  11. Develop and implement public relations, marketing and communications plans.
  12. Implement and maintain sound financial management systems and accounting practices.

Qualifications: 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field. Master's degree preferred.
  2. At least 6 years of increasing responsibility and experience that demonstrates excellent abilities in the items identified above.

Hours: Full time, salaried, exempt position; requires work on weekends to support events

Compensation: Commensurate with experience; range is $50,000 to $70,000. Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement plan
