A leader in the environmental community, Futurewise is the only statewide group in Washington dedicated to ensuring that state and local governments manage growth responsibly.

Futurewise has protected more than one million acres of farm and forestland from destructive overdevelopment, helped make communities more attractive for children and families, and improved transportation choices. Their current efforts continue to ensure that growth happens in a way that is beneficial to everyone.

Position Overview:

Futurewise is seeking an Executive Director who will be responsible for the overall direction and management of the organization, including the Board of Directors, 11 staff professionals, and volunteers and advocates across the state. He/She will build relationships with community leaders, elected officials, environmental coalitions, businesses, and other decision makers while developing effective community outreach tactics to build support and donors for Futurewise.

The Executive Director must be dedicated to land use and growth management issues, and motivated to becoming a strong advocate and informed leader. She/He will have a successful track record of bringing together diverse partnerships, and be adaptable to lead during the changing landscape of land use and transportation issues. He/She will have an understanding of the political process, and a history of success in fundraising.

Demonstrated skills in organizational effectiveness, effective marketing and public relations, and finances and budgets are vital to the success of the Executive Director.

Requirements:

We seek candidates with a minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressively responsible executive-level leadership and management experience, preferably in an advocacy organization. A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, is required. Knowledge of land use and growth management issues is desired.
