Description
The Environmental Education Council of Marin, Marin's environmental education umbrella organization, comprises more than 130 affiliates from the business, non-profit, government, and educational sectors. The Council is seeking an Executive Director.
EECOM was founded in 1999 as a project of the Tides Center for the purpose of building an ever increasing coalition of youth and adults committed to preserving Marin's diverse environments through education, stewardship, and sharing of resources. During the last six years, it has initiated several far-reaching countywide projects that address issues pertinent to Marin. These projects include the Marin Food Systems Project, the Teen Environmental Media Network, The Sustainable Business Network, and the Environmental Youth Education Council of Marin, among others.
Recently, EECOM has become its own 501c3 entity and has embarked on a membership campaign.
In short, EECOM is a dynamic organization that is poised to build upon its early accomplishments. We are seeking a skilled communicator with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for environmental education to carry on EECOM's development.
Responsibilities:
Working with the staff, Board, and affiliates, the Executive Director leads the organization in carrying out its strategic objectives.
The Executive Director's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Overall leadership (implementation of strategic plan)
- Financial oversight (ensuring fiscal stability and budget management)
- Growing a sustainable base of financial support (including cultivating new funding sources and securing grants and donations)
- Managing day to day operations (project management, inspiring leadership team)
- Working with board of directors (to achieve vision)
- Initiating, maintaining, and growing key strategic relationships with environmental, political, business, and educational leaders
- Serving as primary spokesperson for EECOM
- Serving on regional boards as Marin's environmental education representative
Qualifications:
The successful executive director will have excellent interpersonal, organizational, fundraising, marketing, and communication skills; senior level management experience in the non profit or for profit sector; excellent strategic thinking skills, and staff management experience.
Education
- A minimum of a BA/BS degree
Management
- Extensive senior management experience in mid to large size organizations
- Extensive experience with fundraising and marketing, including demonstrated success achieving significant annual and quarterly financial goals
- Experience developing major donor campaigns and foundation fundraising
- A talent for building and supporting collaborative and strategic partnerships (in the K-12, business, and public arenas)
- Ability to communicate with diverse audiences
- Must thrive in an entrepreneurial environment
- Ability to work with foundation officers, donors, media, and the general public
- Experience working with boards of directors
- Ability to manage both staff and contractors

Compensation:
The compensation package includes a competitive salary and benefits package. Final salary will be based upon the applicant's job qualifications and relevant experience.
