The Thomas C. Wales Foundation is a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to increasing civic participation, and recognizing and developing grass-roots community leaders. Current Foundation activities include our annual citizenship award, a Fellowship program, and public affairs symposia on issues of current interest.
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director who is able to lead the Foundation to the next level of its evolution, to enhance the reach and effectiveness of our programs, and to solidify and expand our place in the Seattle area community.
Responsibilities include:
-Manage the daily affairs of the organization, including correspondence, interaction with donors, sponsors, 'alumni network', and others. See that decisions and obligations are handled on a timely basis.
-Work closely with the board of directors to keep the board informed.
-Organize and lead development efforts, including grant research, grant-writing, and direct outreach to leading Seattle-area philanthropists and business and community leaders.
-Manage and plan Foundation events and receptions, including vendor relationships, enlisting board and volunteer help as needed.
-Manage routine record keeping, including the timely handling and acknowledgement of donations. Keep records accurate and up to date. Work with outside accountants.
-Develop, manage and track the Foundation budget
-Maintain and manage the calendar of Foundation activities and deadlines
-Develop Foundation collateral such as information sheets, newsletters and other materials. Pro-actively manage media relations.
Additional Qualifications:
Needed skills and experience
-Strong commitment to the Foundation's mission
-Bachelor's degree or greater
-4 + years experience running a small organization or department
-Very strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking
-Track record of successful fundraising and development efforts
-Successful record of planning and managing large events
-Ability to take initiative, to work independently and as part of a team
-Ability to remain effective and decisive even in times of stress
-Highly energetic, organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task
-Personable and professional. Comfortable and persuasive presenting to the Foundation's board and to outside groups or potential sponsors
-Comfortable and familiar with technology. Good with numbers. Able to use word-processing, spreadsheet and database programs. Experience with web site design and routine maintenance a plus.
