The Providence Resiliency Partnership (PRP) was launched in 2019 by leading businesses, academic institutions, civic groups and residents across Providence including Brown University, Cornish Associates, The Providence Foundation, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Rhode Island and WaterFire Providence and has since been joined by many other organizations including the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, ProvPort, Rhode Island Sea Grant, and the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council. The PRP is closely affiliated with The Providence Foundation and the Coalition for Community Development.

About the Providence Resiliency Partnership:

We are currently seeking an Executive Director to lead the Providence Resiliency Partnership. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader to engage a variety of diverse stakeholders to fulfill the ambitious agenda that has been established by the founders of the organization toward developing and integrating a city-wide resiliency plan.

Position Summary

The Executive Director is accountable for the overall leadership, direction and management of the organization’s resources to accomplish key goals, further the mission and build relationships throughout the community. Working with experts in the environmental sustainability field they will help to develop and communicate strategies to address city-wide climate mitigation and adaptation plans. As an emerging organization, we are seeking a hands-on, action oriented leader, a true generalist, who is committed to working with others to find solutions to the threats of climate change.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the partners, plans and develops strategies for implementation of the Annual Work Plans to achieve PRP’s goals and objectives.
  • With the founders, identifies and recruits new partners; develops strategies to engage members in PRP work and maintains all membership information and contact lists.
  • Builds relationships and partnerships with public and private entities including the City of Providence, State of Rhode Island, downtown businesses, residents, higher education, medical and cultural institutions, as well as other not-for-profit organizations; the Executive Director will be the chief advocate to the public.
  • Regularly meets and collaborates with partners and stakeholders to identify needs and follows up on progress to agreed-upon plans and programs.
  • Plans and conducts PRP stakeholder meetings; handles all logistical arrangements, prepares materials, coordinates speakers and attendees and completes all follow up activities. May facilitate sessions.
  • Provides on-the-ground support to the Working Groups, meets with members and helps to negotiate working group contracts with funders.
  • Develops and implements fundraising strategies to support the mission and objectives of the organization. Secures sources of income, directly raising a diverse mix of public, private and donor funds; actively solicits donations with the support of the partners. Prepares all reports and accountability systems required of each funder and the partners.
  • Ensures financial sustainability and sound financial practices. Prepares the annual budget, as well as regular financial reports as needed. Processes all payables and receivables and ensures financial record-keeping. Prepares and approves vendor contracts.
  • Conducts research on specific issues and opportunities, reports progress and recommendations to the partners.
  • Manages the media relations consultant, interns and temporary staff.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with the partners. Meets regularly to develop goals, provide updates and seek feedback.
  • Proactively builds external partnerships and actively develops and maintains positive community relations.
  • Collaborates with external partners and other groups on periodic climate events of interest to the PRP.
  • Working with the media consultant, manages the PRP web site – updates text, posts material etc., consistent with the external messaging and branding strategy.
  • Represents PRP in the national urban sustainability field.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the preferred fields of planning, public administration, business, urban design, environmental sustainability or a related field. Coursework/knowledge of environmental studies strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience that includes some combination of urban planning, interaction with public-private partnerships, working with civic and/or non-profit entities.
  • Track record of building and leveraging relationships within and among a diverse group of stakeholders in either a downtown urban community or business/nonprofit setting.
  • Financial management, budgeting and business planning experience.
  • Fundraising public and private funds.
  • Public policy and planning experience highly desirable.
  • Familiar and proficient with technology to ensure efficiencies

  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting to groups

Compensation

Our Compensation and Benefit package are competitive for the field and will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and record of achievement.
