Founded in 1996, Amazon Watch is a dynamic nonprofit organization that protects the rainforest and advances the rights of indigenous peoples in the Amazon Basin. We partner with indigenous and environmental organizations in campaigns for human rights, corporate accountability and the preservation of the Amazon's ecological systems. Amazon Watch has successfully led the way in a number of groundbreaking victories for indigenous peoples’ rights and the environment through effective campaigning, educating corporations and the public, and strengthening the capacities of indigenous committees.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a full-time (open to part-time), experienced executive assistant who excels in calendaring, scheduling, travel logistics, database management, document preparation, and filing, to join our fun-loving, hard-working and kind-hearted team. We are looking for someone who can jump right in and provide support to the Executive Director. Attention to detail, ability to create and maintain organized and efficient systems, priority management and multi-tasking skills are critical for this position and an understanding of accounting and/or databases are a plus.

This Executive Assistant will be responsible for providing the strong administrative backbone needed for the Executive Director to aid in the achievement of the organizational goals. The successful candidate will be excited to be part of a team working towards Amazon Watch’s mission, and will be personally committed to working for environmental justice and human rights. The position would be focused on direct support to the Executive Director in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Executive Director’s physical filing and administrative systems
  • Maintain up-to-date database of Executive Director’s contacts (Salesforce CMS)
  • Assist in the coordination of fundraising events, house parties and local meetings
  • Field telephone calls and information requests when in office or as needed
  • Manage Executive Director calendar and day to day planning
  • Manage Executive Director travel logistics
  • Manage Executive Director assigned tasks as in Donor Research or Project Research 

Qualifications::

  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Quickbooks
  • Must be a MAC user or be proficient in both PC and MAC
  • Previous experience and success in Executive Assistance
  • CMS proficiency (Salesforce preferred)
  • Self-motivated and very organized
  • Superb attention to detail and sharp memory
  • Highly organized person with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and complete work efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work well with as part of a team as well as independently
  • Fluent in Spanish/Portuguese is a plus
  • Strong commitment to Amazon Watch’s mission
  • Desire to and ability to contribute these crucial and valuable administrative skills as part of a dynamic team working for the environment and indigenous peoples’ rights -Legal work authorization to be employed in the United States
  • Prior experience working with Environmental, Social Justice or Human Rights organizations is a plus.
