Position Overview
The Environmental/Regulatory Compliance Specialist provides Environmental and Regulatory Compliance oversight and the administration of all applicable Oil & Gas regulations and laws throughout Atlas at producing well sites as well as at sites where drilling or hydraulic fracturing activities are ongoing.
In particular, this position will be responsible for coal bed methane wells. The position will require maintaining good relations with internal Atlas operations personnel and dealing proficiently with Government regulators on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
Inspections
- Perform inspections for identification of compliance issues and work with operations personnel to come up with a solution to the issue.
- Perform inspections and identify potential compliance issues; work with operations personnel to put appropriate preventive measures in place in a timely manner.
Issue Resolution
- The position will also require knowledge of the regulatory requirements associated with clean-up of a site following a spill. It will include the oversight of the clean-up of spills at well sites to ensure that all affected material is removed from the site and preparation of documentation for submittal to the appropriate regulatory agency as required.
- This position will require knowledge of the appropriate regulatory requirements associated with pre-drill testing and water quality and quantity complaints.
- This position will be responsible for the oversight of the pre-drill water testing program in the appropriate states and investigation of all water contamination or diminution claims.
- Timely notification of all reportable spills.
Compliance Tracking
- This position will require daily knowledge and compliance tracking of all Gas drilling, completion and any enforcement activity involving the Company within assigned areas in Oklahoma, Alabama, and other states as required.
- The position will also require keeping current with training and updated oil and gas laws and regulations in all states as assigned.
This position will also involve the following:
- The inspection of Drilling Rigs and locations as the wells are being drilled and completed.
- Communication with regulators making the required notifications during the drilling and completion process.
- Communications with regulators regarding incidents at sites and ongoing operations at sites.
- Ensure proper well casing, cementing and on site documentation.
- Inspect drilling and frac pits for proper freeboard, liner integrity, safety fences and signs.
- Ensure proper Erosion and Sedimentation control using Best Management Practices are in place and are functioning properly in accordance with the approved plans.
- Ensure that proper documentation such as permits and E&S plans are on site.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 4 year undergraduate degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- 3+ years environmental/regulatory experience; gas and oil industry experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the Oil & Gas field including land operations, well drilling, completion, production, service, pressure regulation, gas characteristics, pipeline installation and operation, gas compression, well head plumbing, tubing string installation and operation, well fluid collection and control, and a familiarity with Commonwealth Environmental Compliance Laws and the enforcement of those laws.
- A working knowledge of coal bed methane wells is important to this position.

Work is both in the office and the field with frequent moderate physical activity and requires the use of personal safety equipment on a regular basis.
