Description

The J. R. Simplot Company is a privately held food and agribusiness corporation based in Boise, Idaho. We employ approximately 10,000 people in the U.S., Canada, China, Mexico, and Australia.

This position provides technical assistance to the Environmental Manager with particular emphasis on environmental regulatory compliance. This position reports to the Environmental Manager and supports the environmental functions of the Moses Lake and Othello facilities and farms. This position is accountable along with others for ensuring the facility is in compliance with environmental regulations.

The person will evaluate, recommend and specify procedures, equipment, develop, implement and conduct training, etc., necessary to ensure regulations are met. This position will be required to maintain the level of knowledge needed to perform the duties in ensuring compliance with regulations such as SARA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water act, Hazardous Waste and any other City, County, State or Federal regulations.

Planning, organizing, interpersonal communications and presentation skills are key ingredients for the success of the Environmental Specialist.

Varying shift assignments, weekend work and overtime may be necessary to reach operational goals.

Responsibilities:

*Provides technical direction, coordination and oversight of functions necessary to allow management to comply with all environmental laws and regulations. *Ensures new procedures and programs are in compliance with applicable standards and government regulations.
*Effectively communicate relevant issues to company employees at all levels. Communicate with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies with an ability to foster a good working relationship.
*Continued implementation and compliance with Simplot Environmental Management System.
*Provides the auditing and reporting function to ensure procedures and policies are being followed and complied with.
*Provides the development, implementation of training and guidance necessary for the Facility personnel to accomplish their assigned tasks in compliance with environmental regulations.
*Analyze and implement permit requirements to ensure the required reporting and recordkeeping are implemented for all permit requirements.
*Prepare and submit required environmental reports (Land Application Reports, Air Permit reports, Tier II, Form R, etc.)
*Represents the Company in environmental affairs and ensures it's conducted in a manner consistent with Company and Division direction.

Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and two years related experience and or training. This position also requires strong communication, math, chemistry, presentation, and comprehension skills.

In addition this position also requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
