The Westchester County Department of Planning seeks candidates for the following positions:
Environmental Planner
Join our environmental planning staff working on issues related to soil and water conservation, stormwater management, and environmental protection. Must have training and experience in environmental planning or environmental science.
Responsibilities and required skills include:
- Ability to review and interpret data, plans, and studies related to natural resources and environmental issues;
- Furnish technical information and guidance to individuals, environmental organizations, municipalities, and others;
- Effectively manage tasks associated with projects at both the site level and the regional level;
- Prepare both technical and non-technical documents and supporting material.
Bachelors degree in Environmental Planning, Natural Resource Management, or related field with a minimum of two years post bachelor's experience required. Masters Degree may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
Salary range $48,270 to $60,040, depending on qualifications.
Principal Environmental Planner
Principal Environmental Planner needed to assist in the continued development and implementation of programs and policies to protect the environmental resources of Westchester County.
This job involves:
- Review and preparation of environmental studies, including data collection, plan review, analysis, and evaluation;
- The ability to prepare and present information to a variety of audiences in both technical and non-technical terms; coordination of volunteer boards and committees;
- Project development and management with an emphasis on effectiveness and meeting targeted goals, timeframes, and budgets; and supervision of subordinate professional staff.
Qualifications:
Experience in watershed and water quality planning and programs and/or land use planning required, with an emphasis on environmental issues, analysis, regulatory programs, and public education and outreach methods. Familiarity with New York State municipal and environmental law strongly desired. Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and presentation skills required.
Bachelors degree in Environmental Planning, Natural Resource Management, or a related field with a minimum of five years post bachelor's experience required, at least three of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Masters Degree preferred and may be substituted for up to two years of non-supervisory experience.
Salary range $63,540 to $83,910, depending on qualifications.
