Description

The North Fork Mono Rancheria Environmental Protection Department's mission is to preserve and protect cultural resources and the environment for the tribe, community, and future generations through pollution prevention, restoration, community education and partnerships. Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Director, the Environmental Planner will serve this mission through technical guidance, program development, budgetary tracking, reporting, and implementation of plans related to environmental and cultural protection on tribal trust and ancestral lands.

Example of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor, compile, and analyzes data related to environmental protection.
  • Provides technical information and engages in long term environmental planning on water related issues.
  • Maintains contact and attends meetings with federal, state, tribal, and other professionals concerning project activities.
  • Attends meetings, workshops and seminars locally and nationally as necessary to present and obtain information on behalf of the North Fork Rancheria.
  • Responsible for writing project grants and administrative reports and correspondences.
  • Provide education and training for tribal staff and community on environmental issues.
  • Prepares comments and responses on proposed federal policies projects and procedures related to environmental concerns affecting the tribe.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Resource Science, Environmental Planning, or other related fields from an accredited university (A combination of Allied Arts Degree and work experience may substitute);
  • Must be computer literate;
  • Must have a valid drivers license;
  • Must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data;
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail; Ability to work positively with tribal members, federal staff, co-workers, and managers.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working with Native communities and Tribal Governments;
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and California State processes and environmental laws;
  • Experience with GIS applications in environmental issues;
  • Experience with GPS (Global Positioning Systems)

Cultural Sensitivity

The employee must be culturally sensitive to Native American customs, traditions, practices, and sovereign status.

Compensation

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
