Responsibilities for the Environmental Planner:

  • Provide support and strategic thinking for ongoing projects addressing land use and environmental permitting of traditional energy, linear infrastructure (i.e., transmission lines and pipelines), renewable energy (wind power, solar power, battery storage), and other types of projects in the Pacific Northwest and throughout North America.
  • Perform lead or support function working directly with Project Managers, assisting in task management, organization, and client deliverable development.
  • Support client coordination, manage workload, and delegate work.
  • Perform due diligence and local, state, and federal permitting for energy projects, including writing local land use permit documents, (e.g., EFSC, EFSEC, CUP applications), NEPA documents, mitigation plans, and other documents required under the ESA and other environmental rules, regulations, and associated permitting.
  • Support project development (i.e., work scopes, proposals, and costs), compliance strategy development, represent our clients in meetings with regulatory agencies and promote a high level of technical competence in our work products.
  • Support project administration including subcontracting, invoicing, project financials, and managing budgets.

Qualifications:

  • At a minimum a B.A. or B.S. in an applicable field (i.e., environmental science/policy, natural resources planning, biology, ecology or geography, or a closely related discipline); an advanced collegiate degree is preferred.
  • 3-10+ years of experience in environmental consulting or land use planning.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong technical skills, including data management, analysis, and QA/QC.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, oral presentation, and verbal and written communication skills. • Strategic thinker, problem-solver, and technical report writer/editor.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience with state, federal, and local environmental permitting related to a diverse array of regulated natural resources, with a preferred focus in the Pacific Northwest.
  • A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Other Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Applied knowledge of ecological assessment, environmental impact analysis, environmental due diligence studies, natural/biological resources management, and habitat conservation planning.
  • Ability to review, synthesize, and interpret biological resources information.
  • Familiarity with ESA (Sections 7 and 10) requirements and USFWS consultation process, CWA (Sections 401 and 404) requirements and permit process, NHPA (Section 106), and other statespecific environmental regulations.
  • Strong working knowledge of GIS applications.
  • Commitment to safety, quality management, continuous improvement, and client satisfaction.
  • Highly motivated and able to work very well in a team environment, as well as independently.

Compensation:

  • Salary commensurate with experience.
