Environmental Markets Team Leader

Founded in 1997 to "change the way power is made," Green Mountain Energy Company is the nation's largest retail provider of cleaner electricity; selling electricity generated from sources such as wind, solar, water, geothermal, biomass and natural gas to residential, business, institutional and governmental customers. Close to six hundred thousand customers in California, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas have chosen Green Mountain Energy electricity, which is dramatically less-polluting than typical system power in those states. The Company is based in Austin, Texas. This position will report to Green Mountain Energy's Chief Environmental Officer.

Support the nation's leading brand of clean energy solutions through effective renewable energy supply origination and new renewable project development. This position will also be responsible for leading the company's product substantiation and product supply process through the implementation of effective internal controls and processes, as well as thorough understanding of evolving external tag registries. 

Position Duties: 

Support company's product development process through implementation of effective sourcing and pricing practices. Specific responsibilities include national green tag sourcing, and new renewable project development. Evaluate technical, environmental, and financial aspects of renewable and natural gas wholesale supply options. Provide wholesale power supply origination support from renewable and natural gas facilities throughout the U.S. Maintain contacts in the renewable energy industry and environmental community that yield world class knowledge of latest and emerging project development, technology advances, and government subsidies available for emerging technologies. Support company's environmental initiatives through strategic assessments of state and national renewable portfolio standards. Lead company's product substantiation and product supply process to ensure accuracy and integrity of company's consumer products in regional markets. Work with environmental affairs manager to maintain price curves for green tags nationwide. 

Position Requirements: 

Proven ability to think, act strategically, and create value in emerging markets. Experience in origination of renewable energy supply markets as gained through 10+ years of direct or indirect work with utilities, power marketers, and/or project developers. Experience in renewable energy project development, project financing and knowledge of electric power generating technologies, green tags, energy scheduling and utility settlement functions, and environmental issues pertaining to power generation. Ability to work with cross-functional teams under strict deadlines to achieve high quality results. BA with concentration in environmental policy, business, or economics, MBA with extensive experience in deal origination preferred.
