The Central and East European Law Initiative (CEELI), a public service project of the American Bar Association, is seeking qualified attorneys to serve as Environmental Law Liaisons to promote environmental law reform in the New Independent States.
Coordinate and promote CEELI environmental law related activities in the country/region; manage the Environmental Public Advocacy Center (EPAC), which stimulates public participation in environmental decision-making and promotes the legal reform process through consultations to citizens and NGOs and pro bono representation by local EPAC attorneys; use environmental regulations to encourage greater public participation in decision-making; identify, develop, and implement technical legal assistance projects in partnership with the legal community, governmental representatives, and NGOs; organize interactive training workshops on topics such as comparative environmental law, regulatory compliance, advocacy strategies, and NGO development; and support clinical legal education programs with local universities in order to train law students in the practice of environmental advocacy.
Minimum of five years of legal experience in the U.S. JD or LLM from a law school in the United States. Environmental law expertise. U.S. bar membership. Strong interpersonal skills. NGO development experience preferred. High level of energy and initiative. Foreign language proficiency preferred. International experience preferred.
