Our Client is seeking an Environmental Manager to support the development of wind energy projects across the US, as the company makes the transition from development stage to a high growth operation.
Position Overview:
This new position requires a high level of energy and the experience to support the company's expected $1+billion asset size, two to three years down the road. This is a demanding, fast-paced position that will require the successful candidate to understand the requirements to complete permitting of wind projects across the US with emphasis in the Northeast.
Reports to: Head of Development
Required travel: 10-25%
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate efficient environmental review and permitting of wind projects to an agreed budget.
- Manage consultants and assist in development of environmental review and permitting strategy.
- Develop environmental review and permitting strategy to be implemented across Greenfield projects and acquisitions.
- Represent the company on state and federal levels relating to environmental issues.
- Prepare milestone schedules and coordinate with project directors to ensure achievement.
- Assist in preparation of applications to agencies and regulatory entities.
- Consult and negotiate with state and federal resource agencies to achieve permit conditions congruent with company goals, costs and appropriate environmental protection policies.
- Assist in ensuring permit compliance during construction and operation phase of projects, including post-construction avian mortality monitoring programs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology or other natural science field or related degree. MS is a plus.
5 to 10 years of environmental permitting experience, including working knowledge of NPDES, NEPA, ESA, CWA and other relevant state and federal environmental regulations, ideally with North East focus, Experience with wind energy projects and HCPs a plus. Demonstrated project planning and implementation skills, ability to work autonomously and within a team, ability to interact with state and federal agency staff and officials, High level written and verbal communications skills, availability to travel regularly as required
