self -motivated, and dedicated staff members to educate students at our center.
Driftwood Nature Center is a residential environmental education center located
on beautiful St. Simons Island, Georgia. Our center is dedicated to providing a
fun and memorable educational experience for children of all ages. All of the
hands-on programs we offer help students develop an appreciation and
understanding of the coastal environment. If you love playing in the mud,
canoeing through the marsh, hiking in the woods, and seining at the beach for
amazing sea creatures, then consider working with us.
Duties:
- Teach day and evening programs in beach, forest, and ocean ecology.
- Lead trips
to Cumberland Island National Seashore, Okefenokee Swamp, and Jekyll
Island. - Lead canoe trips on local rivers and marshes.
- Trawl inland waters for
marine life and assist in the maintenance of reptiles, mammals, birds, salt water
aquariums and touch tanks. - Also assist in curriculum development and other
tasks as required.
Qualifications:
BA/BS in biology, ecology, or related field. Must be enthusiastic and
demonstrate excellent teaching ability with elementary through high school
students.
Flexibility, a good sense of humor, passion for learning, and a
willingness to work long, hard hours are essential.
Minimum of 1 year of
experience in residential education programs.
Compensation:
Salary is $400 - $800 per month, plus room, board and health insurance. The
starting date is January 13, 2002.
