The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum is a private non-profit institution located in Cornwall, NY, dedicated to the natural and the cultural history of the Hudson Highlands. Our mission is to create responsible caretakers of the environment through quality education programs that focus on the unique ecology of the Hudson Highlands. The Museum operates two facilities and also offers programs at schools and other locations throughout the region serving over 30,000 people a year.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Education, this position is responsible for the presentation of museum educational and interpretive programs for schools, camp groups, scouts and the general public at our Outdoor Discovery Center and Wildlife Education Center, as well as administrative tasks in support of those programs.
Responsibilities:
- Presentation of Museum programs which include school field trips to our site and off-site programming at other locations such as classrooms and regional events. Programs include live animals, moderate trail hiking, and river seining.
- Management of program reservations, coordination of scheduling, and processing of contracts to include phone and email communication and correspondence with schools and other agencies.
- Assist with the planning, implementing management and evaluation of Summer Camp Programs.
- Coordinate the planning and implementing of Birthday Party Programs, including maintenance of supply inventory.
- Assist with special projects, major museum events and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- College degree in Environmental Science, Education, or related Natural Sciences preferred; or currently pursuing a degree.
- General knowledge of the natural resources of our region.
- Must have demonstrated experience working with groups of children, adults and families.
- Experience working with live animals, or willingness to be trained.
- Must have good communication, inter-personal and organization skills, and experience working in a high volume, fast paced work environment.
- Must possess a strong interest and enthusiasm about the environment and a desire to share that appreciation of nature with children.
- Must have flexible schedule with the ability to work weekdays and weekends, as required.
Compensation: Position carries a wage consistent with the staffing of a non-profit organization and commensurate with experience and skills. Vacation and holidays.
- Part-time position 32 hours/week
- Available September 1, 2011 with flexible training hours during July and August.
