Passionate about environmental education? Want to develop your outreach and volunteer management skills? Make contacts and reach out to the community of Salem as an AmeriCorps member with the Friends of Straub Environmental Learning Center.
The Environmental Education Specialist (EES) will assist the Friends of Straub Environmental Learning Center (FSELC) to extend its programming and coordinate volunteer efforts. Approximately 40% of the EES's time will be spent with Education Committee projects: the delivery of FSELC's annual environmental lecture series, the household ecology series, and the Amateur Naturalist Series.
About 30% of EES's time will be in conjunction with the Outreach and Resource Development Committee, focusing their energy on helping to expand its membership, developing outreach materials, and program service resource development. Five percent of the EES's efforts will be working with the Board Recruitment and Retention Committee and Facilities Development Committee, geared towards recruiting and organizing volunteers to continue restoration work and educational site signage at the FSELC. Another five percent will be spent with the Facilities Development Committee creating interpretive signage. The member will work with people of all ages and of diverse backgrounds.
