Position Overview:
The Environmental Education Intern will assist with programs for BVA's Summer Camp which operates out of the Myrick Conservation Center. This program features fun outdoor adventures with an emphasis on environmental education. The intern will also help organize and create curriculum for a pilot summer camp program which will run at BVA's satellite facility, Saalbach Farm. This position reports to the Education Director.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in Camp Staff Training
- Assist with the set-up and wrap-up of a 6 week long nature day camp
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of camp
- Organize and oversee the camp's before/aftercare program
- Complete internship project (Saalbach Summer Camp Pilot Curriculum)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Applicants must:
- Be a college/university student or graduate in good standing
- Be pursuing or have a degree in science, education or an environmental field
- Have a desire to work with children
- Have a passion for the outdoors and not be afraid to get "wet and dirty"
- Have good written and oral communication skills
- Be responsible, organized and dependable with an emphasis on safety
- Be able to provide own transportation
Preferred:
- Experience with children
Dates/Hours:
- May 14, 2012- August 17, 2012 (includes one week off, must be mutually agreed upon in advance), start date is negotiable.
- Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day, start and end times will vary between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM
Compensation: $3575.00 ($275/week for 13 weeks)
