Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) is a nationally recognized neutral third-party certifier of environmental and food safety claims. Founded in 1984, SCS offers technical expertise in program areas including forestry, fisheries, flower production, sustainable agriculture, pesticide residue free and organic food certification, food safety inspection and certification, environmental claims certification, green building product certification, electric power environmental performance, and more.
The Environmental Claims Certification Program is a scientific program for independently verifying the accuracy of environmental claims on manufactured products, highlighting manufacturers' efforts to improve selected environmental attributes of their products.
Environmental Claims programs include Recycled Content, Biodegradable, Environmentally Preferable, Sustainable Choice, and Indoor Advantage - covering material efficiency, reduction of environmental impacts, improvement of social accountability, enhancement of product performance, and indoor air quality.
We are seeking a highly organized individual to join our environmental certification team. This is a full-time hands-on position working in support of a small team of certification professionals. You will need to be a great communicator (written and oral) both with the team and with our clients around the world. You should be able to work on multiple tasks, able to follow regular procedures, and have a rational yet flexible approach to your daily workload.
Position Overview:
The Environmental Claims Program Coordinator supports the Environmental Claims programs. The position requires working with clients who manufacture products and want to make environmental claims on these products. The program is quantitative by nature. The appropriate candidate will be able to speak with engineers about technical data that we gather in support of these claims.
Responsibilities:
* Manage a consistent work flow of scheduling, written notifications, and record-keeping;
* Send professional e-mail communications to clients;
* Professional telephone communication with clients around work scheduling and documentation requirements;
* Maintain well-organized paper and electronic filing systems;
* Participate in team meetings, planning, and implementation of initiatives;
* Record-keeping and compliance with SCS quality management systems.
Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree is required, ideally in a quantitative field such as engineering or in a natural resources discipline.
* Complete fluency in English and work (or school) experience that involves written communications;
* A science background is helpful but not necessary;
* Superlative organizational skills, ability to prioritize numerous tasks effectively;
* Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to proof your own work; * Experience with computers, and with Outlook, Word, Excel and basic database management;
* An interest in environmental sustainability, forest conservation, and the missions of SCS, is a plus;
* Must be willing to work normal hours, 5 days per week at our Emeryville office.
