Description

~ For the past 25 years, the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center (CSERC) has effectively served as the foremost environmental defender of more than 2,000,000 acres of forests, rivers, lakes, wetlands, roadless areas, old growth groves, scenic oak woodlands, and other precious areas within the Northern Yosemite region of the Central Sierra Nevada. ~

Each year we deal with clearcutting, new road construction, huge new development projects, the spraying of herbicides, destruction of wildlife habitat, and other threats to wild places and open space.

Position Overview

CSERC seeks a qualified candidate for full-time employment. CSERC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to protect water, wildlife, and wild places across the Northern Yosemite region. The CSERC office is located in Twain Harte, California, in conifer forest at the 4,000' elevation.

Responsibilities

  • CSERC engages in a broad range of environmental efforts, educational outreach, and media work. The selected candidate will perform varied assignments, including office tasks - such as reviewing CEQA/NEPA documents, writing comments, doing mailings, maintaining database entries, and updating the website.
  • Tasks will include a wide range of advocacy work, fieldwork, and monitoring, such as organizing volunteers, sampling water quality in streams, measuring livestock impacts at meadows, assisting with wildlife photo-detection surveys, and participating in restoration workday projects.
  • In addition to the office work (70% of time) and fieldwork (25% of time), the selected applicant may also be asked to represent CSERC (5% of time) at public meetings.
  • Fieldwork is the staff's priority during the summer/fall field season, with office work dominating the rest of the year.

Qualifications

Essential requirements:

  • To be competitive for the position, applicants should have either a degree in environmental policy or a natural resource field, or have some meaningful work experience tied to natural resources or conservation.
  • Applicants should be fully capable of hiking long distances and working in rugged terrain and traveling off trails in mountain conditions.

Compensation: Salary will be based upon education and experience, as well as skills pertinent to CSERC's programs. A salary estimate for you personally can be discussed in communications with CSERC's executive director if you become one of the second level candidates considered for actual interviews. CSERC provides basic medical benefit coverage, HSA contributions, and retirement contributions. CSERC does not at this time provide dental coverage.
