NEIWPCC serves and assists our states by coordinating activities and forums that encourage cooperation among the states, developing resources that foster progress on water and wastewater issues, representing the region in matters of federal policy, training environmental professionals, initiating and overseeing scientific research projects, educating the public, and providing overall leadership in water management and protection.
NEIWPCC is a leader in forming strong bonds between the New England and New York State environmental agencies, and is unique in its ability to bring diverse interest groups together, create forums for collaboration, and educate with innovative products. For well over six decades, the Commission has managed interstate water conflicts by means of sound science, coordination, and adaptation.
Position Overview
The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) is seeking a part-time Environmental Analyst to work with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Resources, Drinking Water Program to primarily provide support in the Northeast region.
Responsibilities
- The selected applicant will provide regional program support for the development and implementation of various Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) programs (and trainings) including providing support to public water systems for the implementation of the Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR).
- The successful candidate will also provide technical assistance to water suppliers and regional staff on RTCR level 1 and Level 2 surveys, distribution system operations hydraulics, storage, maintenance operations, and technical treatment issues.
- Individual will serve as the first point of contact for inquiries from the regulated community and the general public.
Qualifications
- The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations, SDWA programs, and drinking water strongly preferred.
- Ideal applicants will have excellent communications and organizational skill, and be able to work effectively with scientists and engineers.
- The ability to exercise considerable tact and diplomacy a must. Regional travel required.
Additional Information
As the position is part-time, benefits are not provided with the exception of Social Security, unemployment and workers' compensation insurance, and the salary reduction portion of the 403(b) plan. This position requires the incumbent to work a minimum two days per week and no more than 20 hours per week. Incumbent will be compensated for approved travel expenses.
