Interested in youth programming? Want to make a difference? Use your experience, creativity and knowledge to build a stellar environmental mentoring program in Portland! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to gain experience in the environmental nonprofit world of Portland, OR!

Position Summary: 

Work with Northwest Service Academy (NWSA) staff to pilot the EnviroMentors Project, an environment-based mentoring program designed to serve middle school students in Portland, Oregon who are at-risk of dropping out of school.

This pilot project will match 25 dedicated AmeriCorps members as mentors with 25 disadvantaged youth. Mentors will spend one-on-one time with students on a weekly basis and will provide opportunities for youth to address locally relevant environmental needs. Through hands-on environmental service-learning, role modeling and relationship building, EnviroMentors will empower youth to recognize their own potential and abilities and remain motivated to stay in school. 

Benefits: $991/month, professional development opportunities, $4,725 scholarship, health insurance, loan forbearance and childcare assistance. 

Service Dates: October 11, 2006 - September 11, 2007
