Description
~ We Care Solar (WCS) is an award-winning non-profit that brings solar lighting and essential power to health centers in low resource countries. ~
With our award-winning "Solar Suitcase" we have advanced the use of solar electricity in under-resourced health facilities to improve maternal and child health outcomes. Over the past five years, WCS's Suitcases have brought light and essential power to more than 800 health centers in Africa, Asia and Latin America. To date, WCS has trained over 1000 health workers and technicians, and have served over 300,000 mothers and infants.
We engage a Bay Area contract manufacturer to build our custom solar electric systems, the Solar Suitcases.
Position Overview
Our growing organization needs a engineer to take the lead on managing the contract manufacturer and the supply/demand balancing. This Bay Area-based job requires precision and diligence as well as a diverse set of skills, and reports to our Director of Engineering. Local applicants only.
Responsibilities
Manufacturing Responsibilities
Primary focal point in relationship with the contract manufacturing responsible for all aspects of the relationship: supply/demand management, quality standards and control, technical specifications (BOM) and process oversight.
- Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Track and document field failures -- incorporate results of analysis into manufacturing and product design
- Maintaining Bill of Materials -- work with product engineering to finalize BOM, responsible for maintaining the BOM with the contract manufacturer and regularly updating to ensure accuracy for costing, purchasing, and pulling parts
- Participate in vendor review process as next generation product is rolled out in early 2017 including the preparation of an RFP, technical review, and vendor selection
Supply Chain/Logistics Responsibilities
This position is the focal point for demand supply matching: work with team on current inventory and forecast of future demand:
- Establish supply parameters to ensure product availability
- Forecast - maintain probability weighted forecast and use this to recommend min/max boundaries for production
- Inventory management -- streamline current system, monitor inventory and minimize exposure to end of life parts/products
- Outbound logistics -- coordinate the pick up and transportation of products shipping regularly by air and sea primarily to Africa and SE Asia
- Logistics expertise -- responsible for understanding shipping constraints and optimizing delivery of products to multiple countries including certification requirements and customs clearance procedures
- Develop supply chain for service delivery models in coordination with Program Manager
- San Francisco Bay Area with occasional international travel
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering
- 2 years working experience in a manufacturing company
- Proficient with DC power electronics
- Autodesk Inventor or other solid modeling experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
