HTP, located in East Freetown, MA, is the industry leader in quality high efficiency water heaters and boilers.

Position Overview:

The Engineer reports to the Vice President of Engineering and works closely with the Operations, Sales, Marketing Departments, and Certification Agencies.  The Engineer is responsible for the Final Product - design, development, testing, and product maintenance activities.  He or she is the company's primary resource for product engineering.

The Engineer is expected to take a "hands on" role in product development from initial concept generation, through design, prototyping, testing, certification, and release to production.  Additionally, the Engineer will provide technical insight into manufacturing, customer support issues and other duties, as needed.   In this role the Engineer is expected to be competent in the breadth of Mechanical Engineering topics and Project Management.

Responsibilities:

  • Solid modeling, assembly and drafting using Solid Works software.
  • Testing of components and appliances to appropriate water heater and boiler standards.
  • Technical supplier interaction and development.
  • Project management of specific tasks and large projects.
  • Responsible for developing product specifications.
  • Identifies technical solutions to design and process issues.
  • Identify test plans to achieve design resolution and validate safety, quality, performance, and reliability metrics.
  • Maintain design and development documentation of decision processes.
  • Develop and deliver successful products on-time, within costs targets and ensure manufacturability of products using disciplined engineering fundamentals.
  • Contributes to maintenance of existing engineering designs and new product development programs in the engineering fields of mechanical, electrical, electronics, combustion, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Operates within the following groups;
    o Testing Laboratory
    o Design Engineering Department

Qualifications:

Education / Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • Engineering Experience from 10 years to 20 years.
  • Experience in HVAC, hydronic heating or water heating products
  • Strong computer skills are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in manufacturing, assembly, maintenance technology
  • Experience in the following areas: Combustion, Electronic Controls, ASME Pressure Vessel Design
  • In depth knowledge of related codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, UL, etc.,)
  • Working knowledge of Solid Works
  • Experience gaining certification to various standards for new products.
  • Working knowledge of 3 dimensional modeling program "Pro-Engineer or similar".

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • Engineering Experience from 15 years to 25 years.
  • Experience in Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with FEA or CFD
  • Experience with Technical Committees in the development of standards.

Other Qualifications:

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, engineering standards, and technical documents. Ability to effectively document findings that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to management, public group and/or board of directors.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Registered Engineer In Training (EIT)
  • Physical Demands - Physical Activities: Ability to stand, walk and sit. Ability to reach and use arms, hands and fingers. Ability to hear and smell. Ability to climb, stoop kneel and crouch.
  • Weight Limitations: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision Requirements: Close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment: Moderate Noise. Laboratory environment exposure to various types of wet, extreme cold, extreme heat. Some exposure to fumes and airborne particles. Interaction with electric, gas and vibrating equipment.
  • Travel: As needed, anticipated less than 25%.
