The State Architect's Office mission is to effectively and efficiently lead capital planning, design and construction of public facilities through quality service, expertise and knowledge sharing.

The State Architect's Office (SAO) establishes the procedures and policies for the effective management of virtually all state-funded capital project design and construction except K-12 schools. Additionally, SAO manages projects for any state agency, institution, board, or commission that requests it. During fiscal year 2007, SAO managed 215 public construction projects with combined budgets of $689 million. Nearly all of these are multi-year projects. 

Position Overview: 

The Ohio Department of Administrative Services, State Architect's Office is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to provide technical assistance to various state agencies, architectural and engineering consultants and utility company's regarding energy conservation and efficiency projects affecting the planning, design, bidding, and construction of state & community owned capital improvement for the state of Ohio.

Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include: utilizing knowledge of energy efficient technology in mechanical, electrical, lighting & other systems to reduce energy usage & associated costs on assigned projects; evaluating feasibility of & projected return-on-investments; evaluating performance contract proposals; assisting in development of energy conservation plans, programs & standards; promoting use & educating agencies on energy conservation & efficiency; serving as project manager for assigned projects.

Qualifications:

Excellent communication, strategic planning and leadership skills will also be critical elements of this position. Strong candidates would preferably have experience implementing USGBC LEED program on projects and be a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP).

Skill Requirements:

Completion of undergraduate core program in assigned engineering area (e.g., mechanical, chemical) to include physics & chemistry. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Major Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of agency, state &/or federal rules, regulations &/or laws regarding energy sources, programs &/or conservation activities*; engineering (e.g., mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical, petroleum, mining, ceramic, metallurgical); physics (e.g., solar, mechanics & heat, mechanical & electrical systems, energy, analytical techniques in description & analysis of physical phenomena); chemistry (e.g., principles of chemistry, organic, inorganic); public relations; speech &/or oral communication; geodetic science (e.g., terrain analysis, energies of natural environment); budgeting.

Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific course of action; gather, collate & classify technical information; use research methods in gathering data; prepares complex reports & position papers; cooperate with co-workers on group projects.

Compensation: The state of Ohio offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and a professional working environment. Salary:$60,091.00 - $88,462.00/Year
