Description

Reports to the Associate Director for Campus Operations and provides engineering support and management to the Physical Plant Department as it relates to utility infrastructure, energy management, environmental compliance and related capital renewal and deferred maintenance planning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Provides administrative and technical support to the operation and maintenance of Caltech’s energy management systems including the development of new programming.

*Develops and perpetuates energy strategies and conservation programs.

*Participates in the development and management of capital projects, deferred maintenance and capital renewal projects as they relate to energy management to meet Caltech’s long term facility condition requirements.

*Represents Caltech in utility negotiations with the City of Pasadena, and utility companies to influence the development of rates advantageous to Caltech.

*Researches and negotiates with appropriate City of Pasadena or utility company representatives to ensure Caltech participates in all available rebate programs.

*Compiles, analyzes and models utility consumption and weather data to assist in budget preparation and to ensure most efficient use of the facilities infrastructure including environmental compliance of mechanical equipment.

*Participates in the design and evaluation of mechanical and electrical systems, and reviews plans and equipment specifications to ensure efficient energy and environmental compliance.

*Researches and interprets federal, state and local energy and environmental regulations to ensure compliance. Provides direction for the developmental programs to ensure compliance with future regulations.

*Maintains and coordinates a current database to ensure needs and requirements are coordinated with project development.

*Performs other duties as required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

*Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Combination of relevant experience/education can substitute minimum requirement.

*10 years of experience with energy or utility management and environmental compliance.

*Priority will be given to individuals holding a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certificate.

*Must have through knowledge of energy management systems, excellent communications and organizational skills, and knowledge in applicable laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to energy and related environmental compliance.

*Life cycle cost analysis skills a plus.

*Project Management experience a plus.
